Devil's Hole Lock - Overview
As part of the continuing work by the Wey and Arun Canal Trust, Hargreaves Lock Gates made new gates at the Devil's Hole Lock on the central length of the canal near the village of Loxwood. After the bridge at Loxwood was re-opened, work was undertaken by Trust volunteers, who lowered the towpath and lengthened the chamber to the full 72 foot and installed back pumps.
Hargreaves Lock Gates made head and tail mitre gates, 5 meters high and weighing approximately 3.5 tonnes, using certified Ekki. Through the foundry Hargreaves manufactured new cast iron quoins, paddle gearing and mooring bollards. The installation, also undertaken by Hargreaves Lock Gates, took 5 days to complete and commission.
