Conservators agreed to allocate money for this project in 2008 as part of their five year business plan. Hargreaves were chosen because they had the 'right vibe', were highly competitive and most willing to listen to our specific site requirements. They also came with a personal recommendation. Jesus Green Lock - Overview

The 170 year old Jesus Green Lock is a Grade II listed structure that forms a major gateway to the College Backs, a section of the river that runs through the heart of Cambridge and best known around the world as a punting paradise.

The Cam Conservators are responsible for the navigation of the river and the replacement of the existing leaking lock gates is part of a five year plan. Hargreaves Lock gates were commissioned to replace all four gates with exact replicas manufactured from green oak. Hargreaves worked alongside Cam Conservator staff to drain down the lock before removing the gates and transporting them back to their Yorkshire workshop. The gates also featured an unusual cast iron balance beam which was restored by colleagues at Hargreaves Foundry.

At the request of the Friends of Jesus Green all on site work to remove and replace the gates was carried out using a tracked crane to protect the flora and fauna of Jesus Green.
