Burstwick Clough Flood Doors

01-Dec-16

This work was part of an ongoing maintenance programme on behalf of the Environment Agency with Jacksons the main contractors.

In April to May 2016 Hargreaves Lock gates replaced existing doors with two pairs (four doors) of new flood doors. The overall aim of the project was to help raise flood defence levels for the area by two metres. This meant the new doors needed to be stronger than those they replaced.

The new doors were made in FSC certified Ekki at our workshop. A feature of the design for these gates was the incorporation of PEFC approved Oak stop logs. Each was 4.5 metres long and stepped from 300mm to 400mm deep weighing 2 metric tonnes. The installation work and commissioning was carried out by our team who spent two weeks on site to complete the work.

All the bespoke cast iron fittings, spigot and anchor plates, were made at our sister company Hargreaves Foundry as part of the same order.
